Our client, a Communications Specialist Company based in Nicosia, is looking for an experienced Vice President of Software Research and Development, to lead their R&D team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the development of the on-prem command and control solutions as well as the communication system control software, designed to function like a web application. This position requires a strong background in software development, project management, and team leadership. The R&D team has around 30 developers. 

Responsibilities: 

Leadership & Management:

  • Lead and inspire a diverse team of approximately 30 developers in two sites, including web developers, telecommunication software engineers, and embedded platform software engineers.
  • Supervise and mentor team managers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Drive the team towards achieving business goals and project milestones.

Integration & Coordination:

  • Ensure seamless integration of various software components into a cohesive and functional solution.
  • Coordinate efforts between different teams and manage cross-functional dependencies.
  • Work closely with the product team to align R&D activities with product requirements and market demands.

Development Process:

  • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from conceptualization to deployment.
  • Implement and maintain best practices for software development, including agile methodologies.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet both customer needs and competitive market standards.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance (QA) team to ensure rigorous testing and validation of software products.
  •  Maintain clear and effective communication with all stakeholders, including executive leadership, product management, and external partners.
  • Present progress updates, technical insights, and strategic recommendations to the senior management team.

Innovation & Improvement:

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software development and telecommunications.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the R&D team.
  • Identify and address technical challenges, ensuring the team is equipped to handle complex problem-solving tasks.

Resource Management:

  • Manage and allocate resources effectively to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Develop and manage the R&D budget, ensuring optimal use of resources.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with software development projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related ?eld.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing and delivering complex software projects, preferably in the telecommunications or embedded systems domain.
  • Strong knowledge of web application development, telecommunication software, and embedded platform software.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and drive innovation.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and project management tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to technical challenges.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing command and control solutions.
  • Familiarity with on-premise software solutions and cloud integration.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices.
